Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Sony Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V now rolling out

Just two days after it started rolling out an official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia SP, Sony is now also ready to update the Xperia T (pictured above), Xperia TX and Xperia V to Android 4.3.

The update is being rolled out in phases as of today, February 13. Exact timing will vary, depending on market and carrier, so not everyone will receive the update right away. Still, owners of all three handsets should get the new software version in the near future.

In addition to the standard 4.3 Jelly Bean novelties and improvements, Sony is also updating all its native apps on the Xperia T, TX and V, including Walkman, Messaging, TrackID, Sony Select, Smart Connect, Small apps and others.

As in the case of the Xperia SP, Android 4.4 KitKat for the Xperia T, TX and V is currently ��under investigation�� - meaning that Sony has yet to decide if it can update these smartphones to KitKat. We��ll let you know when more details on this are available.

Android Ice cream sandwich name confirmed

Android Ice cream sandwich name confirmed, release at Google I/O next week looking probable

Rumors about the naming of the next Android iteration have been around ever since Honeycomb came out and it seems most of them were right. The Ice cream sandwich moniker has just been confirmed by a Google employee on the Android support forums.

What’s more interesting though is that the same forum member mentioned that it will bring a fix for the SweepGradient on paint on Android 3.0 Issue. And no – it’s not important what that class does (though it’s fairly obvious) – what matters is that Android Ice cream sandwich will be an update to Honeycomb. It could be the Android 3.1 that Adobe carelessly mentioned last week.

This seems to conflict with what we previously heard – that the next Android update will bring the Honeycomb novelties to the phone branch of the OS. It could either be that this update has been pushed back a bit, or that Android 3.1 will be able to run on both tablets and smartphones (providing different UI on each, of course).

The good news is that since Google developers are already openly talking about some fixes that Ice cream sandwich will bringр they should be pretty close to finalizing it. And with the Google I/O event coming next Tuesday chances are it will be officially unveiled there and we will have all our questions answered.

Adobe rolls out Creative Suite CS5.5, introduces monthly subscriptions [VIDEOS]

Adobe has decided to step up its release cycle and now in addition to releasing a new version of the Creative Suite every 2 years, they will also be bringing a “milestone” version every 12 months. Enter CS5.5!

CS5.5 is an update to the CS5 suite bringing improved versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Flash Builder Premium, Flash Catalyst, Flash Professional, Dreamweaver, Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.

The Creative Suite CS5.5 offers a lot of improvements, bugfixes and tweaks, alongside many new features including better support for HTML5 and focus on developing mobile applications and testing them thoroughly within the Suite itself. Here’s a video explaining what else is new.

Adobe has also worked out a new subscription system. You will now be able to get any of the Adobe products on a pay monthly basis with fees as low as $19 per month if you commit to an annual subscriptions. If, one-year contract is too much for you, you can get the pure month to month subscription for $29.

Amazon Appstore drops US-only status

Amazon Appstore drops US-only status, spreads to Europe, Australia and India

One of the biggest competitors to Google’s Android Market is the controversially named Amazon Appstore. One of the main reasons for its popularity has been the free app that Amazon gives away everyday to users.

Unfortunately, so far the service has been limited to residents of the US. But not anymore, because it seems now the Appstore is expanding its reach to a wider customer base. You will now be able to access the store from Europe, Australia as well as India. And although that still leaves out a lot of countries, it’s still better than being US-only.

If you are in any of these countries, head over to Amazon and download their Android Appstore app to your Android device and see if you are able to download any of the apps. And do let us know if it works out for you, or even if it doesn’t.

A funny Nokia C7 ad shows just how useful a front-facing camera can be

Well, I don’t know how much truth there is in advertising but I’m willing to bet such encounters like the one shown in this ad are purely fictional. Either that or I should have become a taxi driver.

Anyway, if a pretty girl does walk into your taxi then you’d better have a Nokia C7 at the ready as this ad shows…

See? Things wouldn’t have gone so smooth if your phone didn’t have a front-facing camera like the Nokia C7 does. And of course, a quick and easy way to post a photo to Facebook is vital too.

A green Nokia N8 teases in front of the camera, looks big

The guys at Engadget had the wonderful opportunity to do a brief hands-on on a pre-release Nokia N8 unit in London. Thanks to their live shots, you can really see the N8 size in perspective.

Well, it is big. In woman’s hands, it’s HUGE! Nokia should really get some male hand models for future presentations of the device.

Despite that, the our fellow tech journalists note, it’s surprisingly light for its size and the curved edges obviously make it quite pocket-friendly.

Unfortunately, they weren’t allowed to turn the phone on, so the hardware is the only part that we see here. For more pictures check their post.

A kidney or two will get you a Celsius X-VI-II Papillon, the mechanical phone!

How many of you had a calculator watch? And how many had a mechanical phone? See, mechanical is, um, cooler! Yeah. Who needs a Ferrari when you can own this head turner…

This extravagant phone will be announced tomorrow and more details will become available. Until then here’s what I know – the Celsius X-VI-II Papillon is a clamshell with mechanical gadgetry inside, 547 hand assembled pieces to be precise.

The mechanism operates the clock on the top part of the clamshell and the one on the inside (above the screen). The cover is transparent so you can see the whole shebang tick and there’s even speculation that the mechanical parts play a role in the phone itself, perhaps charge the battery from the movement of the phone like a self-winding watch.

The Celsius X-VI-II Papillon is lavish, exorbitant and pricy

If you though to yourself “I want one!” then better hurry – the Celsius X-VI-II Papillon is probably going to be a strictly limited edition. At 300 000 US dollars a pop that’s hardly a surprise. That’s right, it’s three hundred thousand, I’ve counted the zeroes several times.

If that’s too rich for your blood (or you have some common sense) you can settle for another kind of Papillon. They are very athletic apparently. Oh, one more thing that makes the phone even manlier – “papillon” is French for “butterfly” (the dog was named so because of its ears).
